Wudang district, Guiyang city, in Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been urged to develop into a special business district in the city through revitalizing commerce and trade, by Wei Dingmei, vice-mayor of Guiyang, on Oct 11.

Wei expressed her hopes for Wudang when she led a delegation of some Guiyang government officials to conduct a field investigation of commercial pedestrian malls in Wudang.

The delegation visited commercial areas such as Renheng pedestrian mall, Liwaili commercial block and Xinguangli commercial block. Liu Yu, a consultant from Guiyang municipal bureau of commerce, accompanied the delegation.

Wei said that Guiyang planned to build 100 consumer venues, 1,000 stores and 10,000 shops in a bid to develop provincial pedestrian malls.

As the team leader of the district's pedestrian mall development working group, she also suggested Wudang decide on the positioning and layout of pedestrian malls as soon as possible and consider ways to connect Renheng and Liwaili to improve the quality of pedestrian malls in the district.

So far, the district has finished detailed investigations and is consulting with professional institutes about positioning and layout, said a spokesperson for Wudang.
