Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province achieved remarkable success during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20). The total retail sales of consumer goods registered an average yearly increase of 9.7 percent, foreign trade ranked first in the province, and cumulative exports and imports topped $20.68 billion, up 45.2 percent year-on-year.

In addition, the domestic trade market system was significantly improved and its level of opening-up was increased. Substantial progress was also made in terms of poverty alleviation based on commercial activities.

However, there were also some shortcomings, such as a lack of recognizable business landmarks and the limited scale of domestic trade.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the government will strive to set up two major business axes and five core shopping areas for mid and high-end consumption, and form a commercial pedestrian network that will consist of 10 provincial special pedestrians.

To increase convenience for residents of Guiyang, supporting facilities are expected to be established around each community, including fresh produce markets, supermarkets, and convenience stores.

In addition, commercial services involving entertainment, physical exercise, culture, education, elderly care and housekeeping will be further promoted in the city.
