Updated: 2024-05-22

During the 2024 Cool Guiyang 520 Shopping Festival that lasted from May 18 to 20, Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province worked with major local business districts, commercial complexes and market players to roll out a series of sales promotion and discount plans.

The festival saw Guiyang's total sales revenue reach 3.54 billion yuan ($499.14 million) from 4.82 consumers, up 8.9 percent year-on-year. Nighttime sales revenue was reported at 824 million yuan.

Along with the soaring sales, there was also an upgrade in shopping trends, with increased demand for customized, diversified and quality-oriented shopping experiences. There was a boom in both product and service sales. Sustainability, intelligence and health have become keywords for the current consumer market.

Emerging shopping models have brought much convenience to people. Instant retail involves physical stores joining e-commerce platforms to expand their businesses through immediate delivery services, allowing customers to place orders as easily as ordering takeout. During the shopping festival, platforms like JD Daojia saw a significant increase in orders, injecting new vitality into the consumer market.
