Guiyang's nighttime economy thrives

Guiyang has experienced significant growth in its nighttime economy, with evening dining revenue reaching approximately 19.05 billion yuan ($2.64 billion) in 2024.

Since launching an initiative in 2022, the city has focused on eight key projects: night dining, night tours, night shopping, night entertainment, night reading, night accommodation, night sports, and night appreciation.

Leading the charge is the dining sector, which accounts for about 48 percent of the nighttime economy. Guiyang has developed 74 top-tier restaurants, 10 culinary demonstration streets, and 40 popular food and drink destinations.

Shopping is the second-largest sector, accounting for approximately 32 percent of the nighttime economy. The city has developed night consumption districts and streets, and during the May Day holiday, nighttime consumption totaled 1.77 billion yuan, with 3.17 million visits.

Qingyan Ancient Town and the pedestrian street along Qingyun Road have been recognized as national-level cultural and tourism consumption clusters. During the May Day holiday, Qingyun Road welcomed 783,600 visitors.

Entertainment has also flourished, with Guiyang hosting hundreds of nighttime performances in 2024, including nearly 10,000 small-scale shows. The city's roadside concerts have become celebrated cultural highlights.

Guiyang has enhanced its night reading scene by establishing a new public cultural space, 14 city-themed bookstores, and 198 community book-sharing systems, all extending their hours into the evening.

In accommodation, Guiyang has 340 large-scale lodgings, including 51 star-rated hotels, with four 5-star and 32 4-star hotels, 90 boutique resorts, and 12 high-end guesthouses.

Night sports are thriving as well, with gyms, basketball courts, and badminton halls extending their hours to around 10 pm, and some outdoor basketball courts operating 24/7.

Night appreciation activities, such as light shows, continue to captivate residents and tourists, showcasing Guiyang's vibrant nighttime landscape.
