Dozens of sand trucks, excavators, drilling machines, and over 120 workers were hard at work on Feb 10 at the construction site of the China Construction Bank Gui'an New Area Data Center project (Phase I).
This data center, located in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area, is CCB's largest project in China. It will house 30,000 racks and 300,000 servers, and the total planned investment is 11.3 billion yuan ($1.55 billion).
Phase I of the project development involves an investment of approximately 3.76 billion yuan and covers an area of 476.5 mu (31.77 hectares), with the capacity to deploy 100,000 servers.
The project construction director, Ren Shimin, said, "Phase I construction includes four data center buildings, two diesel engine buildings, one operation and maintenance service building, two 220kV substations, and supporting facilities. The main construction phase is scheduled to begin at the end of May, with the main structure topping out by the end of August."
In recent years, Guiyang and Gui'an have prioritized the digital economy as a key driver of new productive forces. This has accelerated the high-quality development of emerging industries such as big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
To date, Guiyang and Gui'an have attracted 23 data centers. Completing this project will enhance the overall layout of CCB's data center clusters, promote the digital transformation of banking services, and support the development of the data center cluster in Guiyang and Gui'an, noted a local official.
