Guiyang witnessed a substantial increase in consumer spending during the May Day holiday, with consumption reaching 7.35 billion yuan ($1.02 billion), accounting for 33.3 percent of the province's total.
This impressive performance is primarily attributed to measures implemented by local authorities, including trade-in policies and the organization of 182 events such as road concerts.
The integration of cultural, commercial, sports, and tourism activities played a pivotal role in enhancing the retail sector, which saw an overall sales increase of 8.2 percent year-on-year. Notably, sales of tobacco and alcohol increased by 18.27 percent, while grain and food products rose by 9.1 percent.
To further bolster Guiyang's reputation as a culinary destination, authorities introduced a map and bus food routes, which contributed to dining reaching 780 million yuan.
The holiday period also saw significant sales in major commodities, driven by trade-in promotions. Sales of phones and laptops experienced a remarkable 22.1 percent increase, automobile sales rose 8.9 percent, and home appliances and audio-visual equipment saw an 8.6 percent increase.
A surge in road travel during the holiday also contributed to an 8.3 percent rise in petroleum and related product sales.
