Guiyang consumption booms during National Day holiday

Guiyang witnessed a remarkable surge in consumer spending during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays from Oct 1 to 8, reaching 11.32 billion yuan ($1.59 billion), a 7.1 percent increase compared to the previous year.

The city combined culture, tourism, and commerce by organizing 204 promotional events, including the Guiyang International Fashion Week, which created a dynamic and festive atmosphere.

This approach boosted activity in major commercial areas. The railway station area and prominent shopping centers such as MixC reported impressive sales growth of 6.1 percent and 27.7 percent, respectively.

Guiyang's distinctive commercial streets came alive with themed evening activities, driving nighttime spending to 2.62 billion yuan, a 4 percent increase.

The restaurant industry also outperformed expectations, posting an 8.8 percent increase in revenue, surpassing overall consumption growth. Minsheng Road Pedestrian Street, renowned for its local snacks, saw a 29 percent surge in sales.

Consumer spending was robust across regions, with out-of-province visitors, in-province visitors, and city residents contributing 3.09 billion yuan, 2.61 billion yuan, and 5.63 billion yuan, respectively, registering year-over-year growth rates of 8.9 percent, 7.6 percent, and 5.8 percent.
